What to Expect Each Week at our St. Louis Summer Camp

Over the course of a camp week, campers can expect a structured progression:

  1. Introduction & Warm-Up: Arrival, safety briefing, basic stance/footwork.

  2. Skill Stations: Learning attacks, parries, ripostes.

  3. Games & Drills: Fun drills to build speed, coordination, focus.

  4. Bouting / Friendly Matches: Putting skills into action in safe, supervised bouts.

  5. Wrap-Up & Cool Down: Reflection on what was learned.

Because the format is half-day, it’s a great fit for kids who might find full-day camps too long or tiring.

Sample Schedule for Campers & Families

  • Before Camp – Drop off between 8:45 – 9:00 am. Make sure your child has athletic shoes (no sandals/crocs/slippers) and comfortable athletic clothes (leggings, shorts + tee).

  • Camp Time (9:00am–12:00pm) – Warm up games, stretching, footwork, bladework, drills, fencing games, and open fencing.

  • Mid-Camp Snack Break (~10:30am) – Bring a snack and a water bottle so your child stays fueled and hydrated.

  • After Camp – Pick-up by 12:15pm.

  • End of Week – On Friday, we have a little “demo” or friendly challenge to showcase what the campers learned (good for parents!).

Why Fencing? The Hidden Benefits

It’s more than just “sword-play”:

  • Physical fitness: Fencing builds agility, coordination, reflexes, and endurance.

  • Mental acuity: Strategy, tactical thinking, and decision-making are embedded in the sport.

  • Confidence & Emotional regulation: Kids learn how to manage pressure, respond to unexpected moves, and maintain composure, which are all valuable life skills.

  • Community: Because fencing is a smaller niche sport, there’s a tighter, more supportive community vibe compared to big team sports.
